Contextual Menu Issue in v.2.4.6
I am using version 2.4.6 with Mountain Lion and have a odd but minor problem.

The contextual menu option which, when I control click on a file, allows me to move it to another location does not appear unless I turn FinderPop off and on in System Preferences. Once I do so, the issue is gone for the day.

Any ideas how to rectify this ?

Re: Contextual Menu Issue in v.2.4.6
When you start up your Mac, is FinderPop installed? Does clicking an unused part of the menubar work for you?

Immediately after Starting up, have a look at the output of /Applications/Utilities/Console
... you should see something like

I restarted a few times. Each time I the FinderPop contextual menu was immediately available:

Re: Contextual Menu Issue in v.2.4.6
So the contextual menu was immediately available in the Finder every time you restarted? That's as it should be, but I'm a bit puzzled as to why it wasn't before...

Anyway, you have FinderPop installed for "just you" instead of "all users" - which means FP won't work in Sandboxed apps like TextEdit on 10.7/10.8.
If you have FP installed for 'just you', it's easy to reinstall it for 'All Users':

From here:
Note: for FinderPop to patch Sandboxed apps, the FinderPop prefPane needs to be installed for all users, not just you.
If your FinderPop is installed for just you, you can uninstall it and then reinstall it for all users by - close System Preferences, open it again, right-click on FinderPop's icon in System Preferences, choose 'Remove' or 'Uninstall', then close System Preferences. Back in the Finder, double-click the FinderPop.prefPane you've just downloaded, which will open System Preferences, which will ask you whether you want to install FinderPop for all users, or just you. Choose 'All Users' and continue as usual.
The technical reason for this is that Sandboxed apps have read access to /System/Library but no access at all to /Users/your-name-here/Library. When FinderPop is installed for all users, it's put in /System/Library/PreferencePanes, a location which is accessible. When FP was installed for just you, it was inside /Users/you/Library - and Sandbox will prevent TextEdit from reading anything in that location.

Re: Contextual Menu Issue in v.2.4.6
Thanks!

I just reinstalled for 'All Users', at least some of the time it was TextEdit files for which the contextual menu was not available.

If the issue arises again I will make detailed notes.

FinderPop is the best!!

Re: Contextual Menu Issue in v.2.4.6
MacBook Pro 2012. Mountain Lion 10.8.2. Finderpop 2.4.6.
Since some days Finderpop seems to work no more on my MacBook. Clicking in free space in the menubar does nothing. And right-clicking on a file doesn't show anymore the Finderpop items.
I always install FP for all users. But to be sure I de-installed FP, logged out and in, downloaded FP again and re-installed for all users. But, however FP is showing up in System Preferences, it seems not working via the menubar and via right-clicking on file names. What to do?
I'm missing FP almost every hour!

Re: Contextual Menu Issue in v.2.4.6
Fire up /Applications/Utilities/Console and you should see some output when FinderPop starts and when it patches apps.
Is FinderPop running? Is it "On" in System Preferences? Turn it off and back on again... and you should see the Console output... maybe that will give us a clue.
It could also be related to Security and running unsigned apps: See this post.

Re: Contextual Menu Issue in v.2.4.6
Thank you, Turly. Every time I tried to re-install FP I got a message that it's a program of an unknown developer. And right-clicking on the programfile didn't show the ability to install nevertheless.
Finally I temporarily closed Gatekeeper, re-installed FP, got the message about the unknown developer with the possibility to install nevertheless - and then FP was back, as well in the free space of the menubar as in the contextual menus.
After the re-encounter with FP I activated in a hurry Gatekeeper again.
Good luck. And thanks again.

Re: Contextual Menu Issue in v.2.4.6
The contextual menu option problem arose again. I tried clicking on a PDF and a TexitEdit file. Both were problematic for the contextual menu did not appear. Once I turned FinderPop off and then on the menu appeared. Below is an abbreviated version of the Console logs for the full one had too many characters to be posted:

Re: Contextual Menu Issue in v.2.4.6
FP will print that message when it thinks an app is sandboxed. Notes, Mail, Preview and TextEdit are indeed all Sandboxed apps.

I tried clicking on a PDF and a TexitEdit file. Both were problematic for the contextual menu did not appear.

Are you talking about control-clicking a PDF and a TextEdit file while in the Finder, and no contextual menu appears?
Or are you talking about opening those files in their respective viewers and that clicking an unused part of the menubar does not pop up the FP menu?

You can mail me the full log if you wish (turly@finderpop.com).

I'll have to add code signing to the next version of FinderPop.
Because of that (and for other reasons), it is also likely that I am going to stop releasing new versions of FinderPop for 10.4.x/10.5.x at this point (other than bugfixes.)

Re: Contextual Menu Issue in v.2.4.6
(Sorry for the delay in replying, was on holiday)

Nothing unusual in the log file, alas.
Could you uninstall FinderPop by opening System Preferences -> Right-Click "FinderPop" -> "Remove FinderPop.prefPane" which will remove the prefPane but keep all your FP preferences etc.)

Then reinstall using Constantino's method above - temporarily close GateKeeper, then close System Preferences (ie make sure it's QUIT), then double-click FinderPop.prefPane to reinstall FP (and you should choose "For All Users").

Let me know if that doesn't solve your problem. As I said, the next version of FP should have code-signing enabled which should fix this issue.
