Re: «Add "Contents" submenu if control-clicking a folder»
Yes! It has worked, and I've only needed «defaults write com.finderpop.finderpop ignoreEmptyFPMenu true»: I didn't have to touch the «Inline FP items...», which remains off.

Having had a Mac around for too long (since 1984-one of the first 128K Macs @ 220V assembled in your contry) I had forgotten to RTFM (RTFHelp in this case)!

I owe you another...

Re: «Add "Contents" submenu if control-clicking a folder»
Thanks for your prompt reply, Turly. Not the one I hoped for, though... The thing is that, some time ago, I turned *everything* off except «Add "Contents" submenu if control-clicking a folder». Risking to try your patience, how about the possibility of turning off the presence of the "FinderPop Items" folder in the contextual menu (specially if that folder is empty)? That would do it for me.

Again, let me apologize for my embarrassing underuse of FP.

«Add "Contents" submenu if control-clicking a folder»
Hi, Turly

I've invited you to some pints —or «canyes», or «gerres»— over the years, and very gladly so, since FinderPop has been an integral part to every Mac I've owned since FP's first incarnation. But, you know, with age (mine, I mean), I've found myself downsizing, or streamlining (or whatever one may call it) my interaction with my Mac to the point that I'm using just ONE of FP's functions, although an irreplaceable one at that: namely, the «Add "Contents" submenu if control-clicking a folder».

«Well», I thought, «if I only use this function I surely will find a little program that does just that without the potential overhead of the rest of FP's functions». But, try as I might, it's been impossible for me to find such an app!

So, after a couple of months, I've given up the search. And in the meantime I've gathered enough courage to ask you this: I don't know to what degree this function is intertwined with the rest of FP's code, how easy or difficut it is to isolate it, but is there any possibility that you can deliver just this single function as an independent little app?

And that's all! As always, thanks in advance for your attention.

Well: apparently, it's fixed! After a couple of tests, everything works fine, even after restoring "Finder Control-Free Popup Delay" almost to "Fast". Again, thanks for your work!

Re: Lion: Any click to select a file/folder pops up FP menu
...have you tried turning off control-free popup?

Yesterday I tried "Finder Control-Free Popup Delay" almost to "Never" and it didn't work. This morning, I put it no "Never" and it did work!

... is the popup menu an FP "contents" menu of the folder you clicked in... or is it a normal "FinderPop menu" ?

The popup menu was as expected, "contents" on a folder, normal on a file.

BUT... I've had to disable it again in order to write this answer because Safari 5.1 quits unexpectedly (without error message/window) when I try to edit something here. Arrrggghhh...!

Lion: Any click to select a file/folder pops up FP menu
Hi, Turly:

I've had to disable FP (2.3.9.1). When FP is active, I just can't select a file or folder in the Finder. When I click on one —with a Magic Mouse or with the MacBook (2008, aluminum) trackpad— it doesn't get selected and the FP menu always pops up. In the case of the Magic Mouse, it doesn't matter where I click, be it right, left or center, the FP menu keeps popping up... None of the Ctrl keys —main MacBook keyboard and external keyboard— is stuck.

Any ideas?

As always, thanks in advance for your attention.

Re: Items on Finder sidebar & Open submenu
turly wrote:To get back to you on this again, you talk about "the Open submenu doesn't work" .. are you talking about the Open menu item, or the Open With... submenu?

[Edit:] And are you using the Recent Items "in a submenu", or "inlined"?

Turly, I mean this: When you right-click on an item located in the sidebar of a finder widow, you get a contextual menu with several options; One of them is just "Open", and this is the one that *sometimes* doesn't work, etc., etc. (the "Contents" menu for that same item in the sidebar, which is activated in the Prefs panel, *always* works in the sense that, when you just click on it, it opens the item in question, just as the "Open" item should do).

Sorry, but I don't understand clearly the "Recent Items" question... So, I'll tell you my Prefs panel options:

- Appearance Tab: "Use Custom Icons in...", ON; "Use same filenames as...", ON; all other options OFF.
- Options Tab: ALL options ON, EXCEPT "Add 'processes' submenu". Popup delay: Rather fast; "Remember the last X items... in a submenu", ON.
- Active Tab: "FinderPop active in all apps" ON; "Enhance other apps...", OFF. No apps prevented from being patched.

Hope this can help. As always, if can help you in any other way, just ask! And let me add that, at least for me, that little "quirk" is not THAT important...

Items on Finder sidebar & Open submenu
Hi, Turly!

Isn't it quite in here!

Well, the thing is that the -minor- problem I reported some weeks ago keeps on reappearing: namely, that, for no apparent reason, the "Open" submenu doesn't work when I click on a Finder sidebar item (remember, though, that the items open when I select the "contents" submenu with the name of the item in question). On the other hand, and as was commented in the old forum, the problem disappears if I set "Remember the last menu items chosen" to 0 (and it works for some time if I set it later to any other value).

I'm sorry, but I'm not able to reproduce it at will: It just happens...
