FinderPop 2.3.2.0 BETA
FinderPop 2.3.2.0 Beta (tagged "Quasimodo") is now available.
("Quasimodo" because that's the way I'm walking after doing something nasty to my back last week... getting much better though!)

  • Updated localisations for the new "Aliases in Italics" checkbox - thanks to all the localisers!
  • New click-in-unused-menubar code for 10.6 and 10.7 ("Lion") - thanks to Rene for testing this
  • When "Use custom icons" is turned off, apps now appear with a generic application icon rather than as a folder (err, whoops)
  • Bump maximum number of Recent Items to 16 (this was already the max, I just added 13, 14, 15 and 16 to the popup menus)
Previous fixes:
  • Labels and Cmd+Option "Info Window" on Snow Leopard Finder, incomplete but it's a start.
  • Fixed a number of longstanding alias bugs
  • Italicised Aliases now possible via checkbox in Appearance pane
  • Labels displayed for aliases use the alias's label, not the target's.
  • Some 10.7 "Lion" compatibility (thanks, Rene)
  • Folders with .fp-ignore files inside are ignored (I just installed Office 2011 and wanted FinderPop to completely ignore my previous Office 2008 install.)
    • Fix 64-bit Cocoa "unused menubar" check - no longer causes a crash in Photoshop if you choose 'Invert Selection' (thanks to Dave for the prod - I wasn't restoring the OpenGL context properly!)
    • Fix 64-bit Cocoa "unused menubar" check so it obeys the "must-be-control-click-in-menubar" setting
    • Ignore .plugin files when creating "All Apps" submenu (for items ending in '---a'.)
    • Add 'quit' AppleEvent handler to finderpop-daemon. A forum user was having problems with FinderPop apparently causing a hang on shutdown/restart/logout. This may help matters.
    • Fix a Snow Leopard bug spotted by cowicide where clicking-and-holding on an alias didn't pop up a Contents menu when it should have.
    • Fix a bug where ctrl-clicking on an alias A to a folder B would mistakenly allow you to move/copy/alias A into B's children.
    • Improved German localisation - thanks Hajo Bass who sent me the improvements back in August and I'm only incorporating them now - sorry!
    • More complete Italian localisation - thanks Mauro Ferreri and Nello Martuscelli

What remains to be done:

* Contextual Menu Support in apps other than the Finder on Snow Leopard

If you're installing this over a previous beta, you'll have to restart or logout for it to take effect.

As usual, if there are any issues with this, reply here in the forum!

Re: FinderPop 2.3.2.0 BETA
Works fine, thank you!
Thanks for the colour labels :D too
You've forgotten to update http://www.finderpop.com for about 50 weeks – online and in the Control Panel :-)
:-)
all the best,
Cowicide

I click in the menubar and nothing happens with 10.6.6 for me. I tried setting the option and restarted and still not working.

Re: FinderPop 2.3.2.0 BETA
Hey Cowicide,

Is your menubar patterned or translucent in some way? FP looks at the pixels around the click point to see whether the click is in "unused" territory or not. Turn off translucency if it's on.

Does clicking at the upper left corner of the screen - location (0, 0) - work?

Re: FinderPop 2.3.2.0 BETA
I can't get FP to work in 'Lion' GM at all. Nothing (control-clicks, clicking in an unused part of the menu bar, etc.) gets me the FP menu. I restarted numerous times. I have the 'On' check box checked in the FP pref pane. I reinstalled a bunch of times. Anybody have any suggestions? Let me know, please. Thanks.

Re: FinderPop 2.3.2.0 BETA
I don't have Lion yet I'm afraid.

If nothing at all works, I suspect that the mechanism we use to patch apps (an osax) may need work...
According to some other users, the previous (non-GM?) version of Lion and FinderPop worked fine so it's a recent change.

Re: FinderPop 2.3.2.0 BETA
And one other thing - what happens if you kill and restart the Finder?
And does anything appear in the Console ? FP usually prints something every time it patches an app...

Re: FinderPop 2.3.2.0 BETA
Well it says it's patching Finder, but it doesn't work. Didn't work in Beta 4 either.

TotalFinder still works, though. It uses an OSAX to patch.

Re: FinderPop 2.3.2.0 BETA
Cheers Balrog! Useful info.

I've only just discovered that it only costs $99 to join ADC and get access to beta system software. Back in my day this was well over $1000!
So I'll sign up and hopefully have it by this evening. Unfortunately I won't be able to do anything with it tonight as SWMBO has decreed that my birthday treat to her is to take her to the ballet - "Giselle" ... I'm looking forward to this like I am to a tooth extraction.

Now to see if I can sneak in a Camelbak filled with beer...

Re: FinderPop 2.3.2.0 BETA
you'll enjoy some of the tunes and the fashion-show, I bet.

I won't upgrade to Lion. They might call it Giselle, still won't. Company store – no thanks.

Nice to hear you're ok and thanks!
